What is the
main advantage of a Static converter over a Rotary converter?
The static converter
works best on single motor applications that have a weak supply network or
input voltages equal to or less than 240v. It also supplies the center phase
progressively as the three phase motor picks up in speed which has minimal
supply disturbance and a smooth start feature to the three phase motor.
How do you
select the best setting on a Power Level Switch?
The optimum setting
is determined with the motor running and selected for a balanced voltage
across phases.
Can I use
a Static converter on three phase welders?
No, Rotary converters
only.
What about
multiple motors?
Yes , but the
auxillary motor must only be in operation when the main motor is running
, for example on a three phase lathe operated by a Static converter you would
need to start the main motor and once up to speed the lube pump can be turned
off and on at will.
Can I use
a Static converter for compressors amd submersible pumps?
No, static converters
are limited to loads generally experienced with machine tools ie. have a
starting current requirement of less than 3 x the full load current rating
of the motor operated.
Does it consume
any more power than it would on thre phase?
Static converters
consume minimal current off load and on load the only real losses or consumption
of the converter is in heat losses, this works out to only a few percent.
What size
KVA transformer is required?
As a guide one
KVA per HP of three phase load to be operated at one time.
Where do
I install the converter?
It needs to go
into an enclosed area with adequate ventallation to allow for cooling and
protection from the weather ie. shed or workshop etc.. The best option is
to mount the converter as close as possible to the loads operated.
Does your
inverter produce line interference or harmonics?
Firstly the POLYPHAZ
unit is not an inverter it is a converter and as such does not contain high
speed switching devices that can distort the input power supply and produce
harmonics, as a result of this the POLYPHAZ converter can utilize a 100%
of the supply transformer capacity unlike inverters which have a rating to
supply transformer ratio of approx. 10% of the supply capacity transformer
unfiltered as per AS2279 part two.
