Three phase power was an unviable option for this location to operate a one man engineering buisiness, a S/4/240 static converter was used to operate a lathe, mill, etc.

Rob Lumsden at Lumsden Eng was faced with some expensive options to get three phase power at his rural location or modifing his Lathe, mill,& general engineering equipment making his buisiness operation a unviable venture. He chose a S/11/480 static converter ,as he in most cases was working by himself therefore setting the converter power level switch to suit load operated was not a concern & the static converter is the best option where the power supply is limited as the static converter supplys the centre phase proportional to the motor speed at start up , offering a smooth start feature to the loads operated with minimal supply distubance.
